World War II

Though Europe and the Pacific were the main theatres of combat, the men and women who served during World War II were stationed in many places around the world. Wars in Europe and Asia were being fought as early as 1935. The United States entered this war when President Roosevelt declared war shortly after the bombing of Pearl Harbor in December 1941. Victory over Europe was declared on May 9, 1945 and victory over Japan was celebrated on August 14, 1945.
