There should soon be a third site within the Town of Sterling listed on New York State’s Register of Historic Places. Stefan House has admired Fair Haven’s historic Cottage Farm house since childhood, always half dreaming he might one day live there. Early on he appreciated it’s charm and knew well the mystique of its historic significance in the story of Fair Haven. Last year he and his wife, Amy, saw the opportunity to acquire it as a summer residence and he has moved swiftly to have it placed on the State’s Register of Historic Places. Historic Preservation Program Analyst, Virginia Bartos, made a visit to Fair Haven last summer and authored the final application for
placement on the State Register. She announced Thursday that the New York State Historic Preservation Board had approved the Cottage Farm for recommendation. The state Historic Preservation Officer is expected to announce her approval of the recommendation soon. Ms Bartos will then proceed with an application to have the house placed on the National Register as well.
