200 Years 1812 – 2012

Two Hundred Year Sterling Anniversary

A silver anniversary may be 25 years, but this year is a Sterling Anniversary of 200 years.  Sterling’s town goverment was officially established on June 19, 1812. The Congress of a then flegling country know as The United States of America approved a declaration of war against England on June 18, 1812. This is now known as The War of 1812, though it was not over until 1815. The plans for Sterling’s independence from Cato had long been in the works before the war began and on the following day, June 19, 1812, the Town of Sterling established itself as planned.

Veterans Project: During this year we would like to accumulate biographies of Sterling’s veterans from the War of 1812. If you have any information about someone who was born in Sterling or Fair Haven, lived here, died here or is buried here, please let us know so we can add these veterans in our records. We have started this page to list the veterans we find.
